I recently drew another cover for my hometown alt newsweekly, the Pittsburgh City Paper. Since I work (partly) digitally, I was able to submit the final file with several layers separated in Photoshop. This allowed the art director (the always superb Lisa Cunningham) to easily slip the text in behind or above certain elements of the illustration. I think letting the explosion cover up almost the entire word "City" really makes it pop.
It's always a pleasure to work for these folks, and it's a lot of fun to be able to stumble across my own art at the coffee shop or on a street corner somewhere!
